I’ve been toying with the idea of jumping on the Twitter bandwagon for some time. My main problem was attempting to justify how it would benefit me professionally. However after reading around the issue in particular these two posts: http://www.joeyanne.co.uk/index.php/2009/01/26/twitter/ and http://philbradley.typepad.com/phil_bradleys_weblog/2009/01/twitter-your-first-24-hours.html I am convinced that joining will be a positive move.
Initially I have set up a Twitter account from a chartership and networking perspective. Hopefully it will enable me to keep up-to-date with professional developments, interact with peers and “attend” conferences. I have been tweeting for a few days and already I am excited by the level of discussion and new ideas and debates raised in this micro-blogging forum. The Twitter-world is also very friendly, I have received direct messages from other library professionals offering guidance and advice.
Ultimately I would like to explore a Twitter profile for the Library. It will be fascinating to discover the possibilities for outreach, promotion and also guidance for our users- local and family historians. Additionally it could signpost new exhibitions in the Museum. This is a development for the future and until then I will enjoy the benefits of being part of this network.
