I am now writing from the unique perspective of a librarian working within a museum.  Around 8 years ago it was decreed that the town’s Local History collection would be more accessible and more appropriately located within the museum, therefore it was moved from the central library along with the Local History Librarian.

The Librarian retired in december and I took over the post in January.  My background is in Public Libraries and for 2 years I was a Local studies Librarian in the North.  This means that the job is familiar to me and my skills are very transferable, however the history of the town and organisational context are new and hugely different.

I am now finding my feet and discovering how I fit with the museum staff and also how I link to the Public Libraries and Librarians.  So far all is going well.

The Museum Association Journal seemed like a good place to read about significant issues in the sector so my lunchtime reading became a number of back copies.  I have selected three articles on three different topics which I will blog about in later updates.

The first is the very subject of blogging and the Cultural sector, the second is the integration of Museums, Libraries and archives and the third will be a comparison between CILIP chartership and the Museum Association AMA- how are skills needed similar and how do the processes differ.  Additionally I hope to keep reflecting on my own chartership and in the short term my PPDP… more coming up!!
